CAP sells the BONA MOP KIT that is perfect for maintaining wood floors.
  • Vacuum or sweep your floor once a week, or more if needed. The vacuum head must be brush or felt. Do not use vacuums with beater bars or hard heads. A good quality dust mop is also highly recommended to eliminate finer particles of grit and dirt that can act like sandpaper on a hardwood floor. Keep animal nails trimmed to prevent finish scratches. Keep animal paws clean & free of dirt, gravel grease, oil & stains.
  • If your floor abuts exterior doors, place outside doormats at the entrances to keep dirt and moisture from being tracked in. Inside, you’ll want to add an area rug to further prevent dirt and moisture from being tracked onto your hardwood floor. Don’t use rubber, foam back or plastic mats as they may trap moisture and possibly discolor your floor.
  • Spills and tracked-in dirt should be cleaned immediately. Using a Hardwood Flooring Cleaner, lightly apply to the surface and wipe with a sponge mop or a soft cloth. Excess cleaner that does not evaporate immediately should be dried with a clean towel. No rinsing is necessary.
  • DO:
  • Wipe up spills immediately.
  • Use door mats and throw rugs outside room entrances and in front of kitchen sink and refrigerator to help keep dirt and grit off your floor, and to prevent damage and excessive wear.
  • Place runners and area rugs (with slip-resistant backings) along high-traffic areas.
  • Move heavy appliances and furniture by using a dolly rolled over plywood or pressed board.
  • Use furniture leg protector pads under all furniture legs. Use self-leveling nylon/felt bottoms on chairs & cut to fit felt under all furniture.
  • Replace hard, narrow furniture rollers with wide rubber rollers.
  • Keep the relative humidity in your home between 35% and 55%.
  • Protect your floor from direct sunlight.
  • DON'T:
  • Use any of the following products (or products similar in nature) on your floor: ammonia based cleaners, acrylic finishes, wax based products, detergents, bleach, polishes and oil soaps, or abrasive cleaning soaps.
  • Allow water to stand on your floor for any length of time.
  • Walk across your floor in poorly maintained shoes with heel taps, spike heels or with any sharp object protruding from your shoe.
  • Allow furniture to rest on the floor on small metal tips or hard domes.
  • Go to our links page & it will bring you directly into the manufacturer’s web site for specific maintenance procedures.

Hardwood floors that were job-site finished will require periodic screening/recoating & or sanding & refinishing to maintain their original beauty. Contact CAP to set up professional service.
